From Galleries to Metro Stations

Image
Came across this beautiful piece of artwork inside Dabri Mor Metro Station while returning home on a bad day. To say, this sight ' made my day ' would just be an understatement . Beyond being just a way of beautification by DMRC; have we drifted apart ...or is it just me ...that our waning steps towards art has now coaxed it (art) to step out of galleries & museum, to come closer to us & find a place in our lives. Roads, flyovers, subways, buildings, concretes,...are essential....but draw so much of our selves...leaving us sapped and parched . That's when sights such as these just make the journey pleasing and worthwhile. Clearing us of unpleasant emotions, frustrations...& the everyday dust. Months back, I had come across this random thought;  ' The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls .' Now, I can't agree more.

Meaning of MahaShivratri

Image
Scrolling through the numerous customary Shivratri wishes on WhatsApp while enjoying the morning breeze sitting inside a bus, my head wheeled out to a distant, abstract thought, of, we all being Shiva in our individual journeys of life. Just as Shiva, the vairagi , the renouncer , is gently cajoled into being a householder , come into the maintream life. As a renouncer, though he is detached and free of some duties, but as a householder, he can be seen performing responsibilities that in totality lead to his achieving - self actualization , the ultimate purpose of an individual. Likewise, in a cosmic way , we all are born as Shiva, free and boundless, however our interaction with the world, the every day hustle, the struggle, is prakriti (Shakti, Parvathi) , churns us towards our ultimate goal of being our best self. Maha Shivratri in this case then becomes the unison of our boundless selves with the Prakriti, the world around us!
